How Formative Years, Professional and Personal Decisions Can Dictate Your Future

I've always celebrated my independence. I’ve always taken the road less traveled. I’ve always asked for forgiveness later. From moving countries and to different states, it's been an epic journey. At 10 years old, I saw the 90s classic movie 'Singles' which introduced me to grunge music. I said to myself, "one day, I am going to go see that place Seattle and explore (the lost) grunge music scene.  At 27 (ironic for those familiar with the 27 club), I did just that. In 2015, I moved to Seattle.

After seeing the movie Thelma and Louise for the first time in 2010 (a little late to the party and now a favourite), I had to see Arizona and Utah. I did just that. In 2022, I moved to Phoenix.

When I started my PR career, I knew one day I would work for myself - once I acquired the necessary skills in the corporate world, learning from the greats. I did just that.

People ask me how and why I went into business, and the answer is for the same reasons above. I wanted the freedom and autonomy to make my own decisions, create my own path, and build something from the ground up. I did just that.

In making my own decisions for as long as I can remember (with endless thanks to those along the way - Singles, Thelma and Louise, Family, Friends, Colleagues), I am right where I want to be…independent.

To be successful in PR, one has to be brave, bold, and make both right and wrong moves. Taking the road less traveled, and asking for forgiveness later demonstrates thought-leadership. Drawing inspiration from the simple things in life that have personal or professional meaning will always guide you.  Think about all the moments in life, fleeting or otherwise, and ask yourself how you got to where you are...and most importantly, where you will go.
